Size Two? Really?

I'm too depressed to blog right now. I have seen nothing but Mariah Carey splashed all over the place. Perhaps that has something to do with her CD coming out this week. I admit that I was home Tuesday night bored out of my mind and watched American Idol. Class got cancelled - a rare treat. Mariah Carey mentored these young reality stars as they sang her songs. I think she probably came off a little nicer than she is in real life. Anyone notice that she ended each description of a contestant with a closed mouth smile? Maybe she was just uncomfortable and really wanted to say, "THEY ALL SUCK! THEY'LL NEVER BE ME!" I don't know, I just didn't see the Diva in her until she sang with a sparkly/bedazzled microphone and stand during the "reveal" show.

I digress... Why am I depressed? Oh yes! It has to do with something I read. I heard that she dropped three sizes and 20 pounds in eight months. She went from a size eight to a size two. I must admit that she looks gorgeous, but seriously, a size two? Come on! That means all those little Sarah Jessica Parkers are size negative sixes. It just got me thinking that oh my goodness! I can't eat like a freakin' teenager anymore. I couldn't even eat like one WHEN I was a teenager. I need to call Mariah Carey's nutritionist ASAP! I need my mouth wired shut. I need to not be passionately in love with food anymore. See, this is what we call a desperately guilty panic moment. I must have just eaten a cookie. I think I've had a cookie every day this week. Why? I don't know. I have no will power.

I'm using my blog as a type of confession today. Maybe if I blurt out the fact that I have a problem, I'll actually do something about it.

So anyway, I don't think she's an actual size two. My sister and I made lots of snarky comments about it. But I won't deny that she looks fantastic.

Sigh.

Weighing In

I just finished losing all of my "holiday/winter weight" and now the birthday week hits. I've already eaten my weight in sushi, cake and guacamole. And no I didn't have all three at one meal. But I might tonight!

Other good news: I've been so incredibly exhausted from extra-curricular activities lately that I've forgotten the meaning of "alone time" or "down time." I know all you mothers are whispering to yourselves that I don't even begin to understand the lack of "alone" or "down time." And you're right. But you see, I'm doing this to myself! However, I received a call today that my class was cancelled tonight AND rehearsal is cancelled for tomorrow night! Woohooo! Dare I go running? Ew, I just made myself sick with that thought.

Braces Please

Will someone please do me a favor? Wire my mouth shut!

It's nearly impossible to eat right this time of year. Someone's always having a birthday and naturally that involves birthday cake. Someone makes you cookies and you can't turn down a gift...or cookies. You want to drink hot chocolate from your cute Christmas mug. A friend invites you to a steak house...for FREE...and you have to eat your weight in creamy mashed potatoes and carrot cake. I drink decaf coffee afterwards because that's what those skinny europeans do, at least I think they do. I'm assuming and praying that it will help with the metabolism. It isn't helping.

It's time for an intervention. You know what goes nicely with an intervention? Creme Brulee.

I Need a Moment

Katy sends her apologies for not having written sooner. She is currently in rehab for her addiction to ice cream, pecan pie, candied sweet potatoes, pancakes, bacon, chocolate something-or-other, pumpkin pie something made by her sister and trail mix consumed by the handful during the days following Thanksgiving.

She's currently in the weening process. It is a very dangerous time for her. Any minute now her butt may bust through her pants (except it won't because they're stretchy - that is her pants) or her brain may split in half due to the sudden lack of sugar. Pray for her.

Bad News, Good News

Bad News: My favorite pair of summer shoes are starting to STINK. I thought somebody elses feet were smelling terrible. Turns out that rancid smell belongs to me. Good bye cute yellow wedges. We had so many good times together.

Good News: Oreo McFlurry for afternoon snack time. This could turn into bad news later.

Shape Up or Else...

I've come to the conclusion that I am indeed out of shape. (hangs head in shame) This comes on the cusp of my Hustle Up the Hancock race on Sunday. Since when have I turned into someone who doesn't train for races and who relies heavily on "winging it"? I don't know this person and I'm freightened.

Last night I ran for 28 minutes outside. It was my first outdoor running experience in over a month. Then this morning I ran for 15 minutes on the treadmill and thought I was going to die. I had to slow the speed down to 5.8. I've always been a 6.0 girl or more. I was afraid someone would notice my downgrade. I then hopped on the stairclimber for 12 more minutes of athletic achievement. I again was huffing and puffing. I told myself that it was probably PMS. No, just had that a couple of weeks ago. Maybe it's dehydration? Sure it is Katy. But it can't be because I'm out of shape! I've always been in shape. Maybe it's the muffin tops that have suddenly appeared out of nowhere. I swear this Chicago winter is doing nothing for my figure. Yes I have curves and have always been proud of them. But suddenly I have a few more curves...that hang over the top of my low rise jeans.

I'm doing the Indy Mini Half Marathon on May 5th. I must start training hard core this next week. I need accountability people! And I need a smaller pant size. Pray for me.

I'm going to stop at 50. I think that's a good number. I am blessed beyond words and comprehension. So much can happen in three years. I took a risk by leaving everything I knew and look how much I've been able to do with my life. Three years passed by so quickly. I wouldn't change a thing. I want to make the most of the time that I have here.

I know that there are many things that I've failed to mention or momentarily forgotten. Please feel free to add any memories you've had with me over the last three years. I'd love to hear them!
