A Tale of Two Crutches

I am stubborn and vain and three city blocks is an effin' long way. But my eyebrows look good.

Wax On, Wax Off

Yesterday I got my eyebrows waxed. Again, little red spots are left as traces of evidence. But I don't look like I was beat up this time. When I was laying on the table I asked one of my "inane" questions: "Have you ever dropped a glob of wax in someone's hair? I mean, how would you get it out?" She hadn't and I didn't want to be the first.

Walking back to work I began laughing to myself as I remembered a funny story one of my extended relatives told me about herself and a bad waxing situation. She decided to try a do-it-yourself wax..for her nether-regions...never a good idea. She put the wax on her skin...AND IT WOULDN'T COME OFF! She even called my mom for moral support and any wax-removal ideas. She was afraid she would rip off her skin so she had a brilliant idea of getting into a bathtub of warm water to melt the wax so she could wipe it off. The wax did come off, but she didn't immediately realize that she was laying in what had become a tub of wax. Everything was sticky. Her towel stuck to her. The door knobs, the phone, the floor, the tub...all were sticky. Bless her heart. If this isn't a recommendation for professional waxing, I don't know what is.

Epidermis

Winter can be a tough time for the skin. What was once dewy, greasy and could borderline cook french fries thanks to the summer months, is now scaley, dry and a little on the itchy side. If I don't carry around moisturizer with me constantly, my face shrivels up and cracks. It's all very attractive.

Today I went and had my eyebrows waxed during an early lunch break. It was time to tame the beast sitting just above my eyelids. My aesthetician took the normal precautions: vaseline and baby powder. After the first RIP I felt an unusual tingling/burning sensation. I do have sensitive skin so the redness/puffiness wouldn't be too alarming, so what's alarming are the two super-red strips on my forehead. One is just below my left eyebrow. The other is just a smidge to the right of my right eyebrow. This my friends is due to dry skin. Now I look like I've been in a bar fight. Well, someone with gorgeous eyebrows who has been in a bar fight. There is a difference.

Zombie

I'm tired. I can't think straight. My communication skills are lacking. I'm talking out loud to myself and people keep asking me, "What did you say?" I just respond with "Nothing. I'm losing it is all."

Tonight is our last rehearsal before the big opening. We're supposed to finish at midnight. Hopefully we'll tighten up things that need to be tightened and maybe even remember most of our lines.

Tomorrow morning I'll be tempted to roll out of bed, throw on some clothes, and head straight to work. But I'm getting lasered in the morning before work. There's absolutely no rolling out of bed allowed for these appointments. It just wouldn't be prudent. A shower is a necessity.

I'm looking forward to the day when I can sleep!

Anniversary

Sunday marked my three year anniversary here in Chicago. I celebrated by throwing a work event for over 10,000 people. It reminded me of how far I've come since I left on a 15 hour road trip with my dad three years ago. So much has happened in those three years. I took a risk by leaving everything I knew and look how much I've been able to do with my life. Three years passed by so quickly. I wouldn't change a thing. I want to make the most of the time that I have here.

I know that there are many things that I've failed to mention or momentarily forgotten. Please feel free to add any memories you've had with me over the last three years. I'd love to hear them!

Humble Thyself

Or if you can't humble yourself, God will do it for you. I thought I was just having a bad day yesterday. You know, one of those "I never should have left the house" kind of days. Wearing high heels I had to coordinate carrying a heavy box while using an umbrella and flagging down a taxi. Soaking wet I attended a meeting where I was the featured speaker. Then while unbuttoning my pants to get my laser treatment I found out that they had to cancel it because I'm taking oral antibiotics. Thank you adult acne. My post work trek took me an hour and a half and three modes of transportation. Apparently the CTA was having a tough day as well. I was having one big fat pity party for myself all day yesterday. I knew that my reasons for pouting were weak. But I have PMS! Everything is a personal insult and exaggerated by 234% when you have PMS. Crawling into bed last night I finally said "Yes God, I know, it's not about me. I get it. I GET it."

Apparently He REALLY wanted me to get his point and made sure I recognized it today. Let's just say that I may be sporting a little scab under each eyebrow. Topical creme and eyebrow waxing do not mix. Again, thank you adult acne. I had my own walk of shame from Spa Nordstrom back to the office . Watch this be the week that an agent calls me in to audition or meet the potential love of my life. All I can do is laugh and realize that this will make one funny story...in about 5 months. There is one question that I cannot answer: which is worse? Having Josh Hartnett eyebrows or scabs forming on your eyelids?
