Man Muffs

Take those off right now. I'm not kidding! Don't make me come over there and rip your ears off! Have you no sense?! I know it's freakin' cold outside! My face is awash with residual wind burn! When did this conversation turn to me? Stay focused! I'm just trying to help you here. I'm only telling you this for your own good. Please, do yourself...and me a favor, just wear a hat. A hat! You know, one of those nice fleece, wool, cashmere or angora hats. I actually find them sexy. Hats sexy. Man Muffs not.

Well, Man Muffs are a little better than these. I witnessed a pair of leather ones on the el yesterday. I'm still recovering.

UPDATE: Thank you Gina & Christine for locating this and this.

Missed Connection

Dear cute guy driving a 4-Runner at 5:56 am this very morning in front of the 7-Eleven,

Do remember that magical moment this morning when we locked eyes? Do you remember that one special moment when I picked myself up off of the ground after tripping and sliding my palms across the cement sidewalk? Did you find that attractive? If so, give me a call. There's a lot more where that came from.

Anatomy of a Tear

Much to my dismay I found myself crying hard during last night's episode of Grey's Anatomy. I could feel my roommates turning their heads to look at me and make sure that I was okay. Dad, I know what you're thinking. You're thinking, "Kathryn, why are you surprised that you're crying? You cry at everything. Remember that time you saw a dog get hit in the street and you claim you heard it screaming?" Yes dad, I remember. I still cry when I think about it. And I can still hear the screams! I also remember my good friend, Dr. Mark Green, who worked at County Hospital, who once had to treat his dad who was dying of lung cancer. I look like I had been punched in the face after hearing that story. There's also the time that a friend of mine took in five kids with disabilities and then these really generous people, who love Sears ,offered to help build a new house for them. The tears could not be held back. Oh and who can forget my friend who was dying of cancer and his wife was pregnant so he made videos to help teach his kid lessons about life and then he was too weak to shave so his dad, who didn't understand him so they drifted apart, took pity and shaved his face oh so tenderly.

BAWLING! SOBBING!

All that to say that I cried last night. Remember when those two girls left their Amish villages and were never to return? These best friends were going to stick by each other "from cradle to grave." Then one of them has terminal cancer and has known for a while but didn't tell the other one. So she called her Amish parents, from whom she had been estranged, and they show up. The shunned girl was mad. Thankfully she had Izzy there to help her realize that her friend needs her parents and she needs to "let go." The parting of friends about put me over the edge and I almost drowned in my sorrows.

If I were to have to be shunned with anyone, Beckles it would be you.

Blah Blah

Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah. Sorry for the boring posts. I really haven't done anything stupid or klutzy in days. If history/habit proves anything, I should have an interesting story to write about any minute now.

But for the sake of memories... member that one time my jeans ripped?

More Pictures of Cabo

Here are a few pictures that Beth & Bob took while in Cabo. Their camera battery didn't die on them. You can see the HUGE size of these whales! You can also see my glowing skin after a Deep Sea Mud Wrap. Big fan.

Best Friends

Becky kindly pointed out in her comments on the "Jessie" entry that I have yet to post a picture from her wedding. I can't believe I didn't do that! It's probably because I went through an emotionally difficult time where I lost my identity, refused to shave my arm pits and only ate carrots all because Becky got married!

Beckles, did you mean pictures like these:

There's nothing like being able to stand next to your best friend and celebrate a new journey in her life. Love you Beckles!

P.S. I have a great one of you and Russ and I'll add it soon.

Drewby

Last night my little brother, Andrew, called me. I figured he wanted to talk about our upcoming ski trip for his spring break. He said he just wanted to call and say hi and see how I was doing. WHAT?! I was so touched! My brother is a high school boy who is thoughtful enough to check-in on his crazy sister!

Two of my favorite and memorable discussions with my brother resulted from last night's conversation:

1. When he asked how I've been doing I just told him that things are really great but that I still have no idea what I'm doing with my life. Sometimes it's hard but I'll make it. He then told me that he prays for me. He prays that God would show me where He wants me to go in my life. I about started crying right then and there. That's the sweetest thing I've ever heard. I am truly honored that Drewby would take the time to go before God on my behalf. I told him to keep lighting candles!

I also told him my prayer for him since the day he was born. I pray that God would make Andrew a leader for Him and that Andrew would have compassion for His people. He said he's working on being leader. He's on student council and seeking out other opportunities. I'm so proud of him!

2. He said he found some old year books on his bed from when Erin and I were in Junior High and High School. In great shock he said, "Y'all were HOT back then!" I screamed with laughter and could hardly contain myself. I'm sure I was "real hot" with my perm in seventh grade. I'm going to keep that conversation in a pocket and take it with me wherever I go. I love it!

Drew, thanks for keeping me entertained (constantly) and for your love for me! I love you!

DAAAAAA BEARS!

Oh sweet victory! The fans, the snow, the Lovie and a BIG WIN for the Bears. It was indeed a divine Sunday. Horns were honking. Cats and Dogs were hugging. Little children wept for joy and so did their daddies. 'Twas a glorious day in Chicago!

New Gig?

Yesterday I had a message from a good friend of mine in my acting classes. He said that he was asked to do a table reading of a play and he thought that I would bring something great and interesting to the project. I love hearing things of potential future employment! Especially when they have to do with acting! I was getting all excited and thinking about how this could potentially bring me needed exposure. Little did I know that it would bring me lots of unwanted exposure. Following the good news I heard, "She writes Erotica. The title of the play is Sex Scenes." Sigh. Nevermind.

How kind of him to ask though.

Jessie

My cousin/roommate, Jessie, says that I need to mention her more on my blog. So here Jess, I'm mentioning you. I should also mention the fact that she is part of the bet we made with Robert, my neighbor. She's going to make him cookies if the Bears lose. But the game is on and I should be smelling some Jumbalaya soon. The bears look good and Rexy looks sexy; manicured eyebrows and all. Let's hope they can keep it up for the next 10 minutes of game time.

Adrienne's Audition

Here is my friend, Adrienne Diaz, in her audition for The Best Damn Sports Show Period. We worked together at Kanakuk. She really is this gorgeous, fun and talented. If these men are smart, they'll hire her!

Just click here and scroll down to Adrienne's audition. Hopefully this will be up for longer than a day.

Congrats Adrienne!

Bears vs. Saints

Since the "Return of the Victorious Cowboys" dream died a brutal death last week (Oh! (dramatic placement of back of hand to forehead) Tony Romo I don't envy you), I've had to look elsewhere for sports team affiliations.

I live in Chicago so it's only right that I cheer for the Bears. Our baseball was a disappointment this year and basketball & hockey are hardly on the radar. Chicago could use this win to remind ourselves that we are somebody! SIDE NOTE: Hooray for Jennifer Hudson who won a Golden Globe for her performance in Dreamgirls! She's a Chicago girl.

On the otherhand, Chicago plays the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. Who needs a win more than the Saints and the city of New Orleans? This is the cinderella team and wouldn't it warm all of our hearts to see this team go all the way? It's really better for all of humanity to see the Saints claim victory. But is "all of humanity" reason enough to cheer for them?

I'm not a betting woman. Well, okay, maybe just while I was in Cabo and I won $5 from Uncle Bill for picking the SEC Florida over...who was that team?....wait....oh yes, the OSU Buckeyes. It must have been all of the Pina Coladas. BUT, I am betting my neighbor, Robert, who moved up here from New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina that the Bears will take it. I have $5 on that game. If he loses, he also owes us a dinner of some authentic jumbalaya.

I would really like to try some authentic jumbalaya. I guess I'm going with the Chicago win. Go Bears!

Reality Kicks In

I've been back at work for two days in a row. It hurts so bad.

I'm Back...Unfortunately

Here are some pictures from my incredible trip to Cabo. I'm already missing the warm sunny weather, the mexican food and mostly Happy Hour.

Cabo

I have found the place where I will get married someday. After having 25 dates this year I'm sure it will produce something!

I'm in Cabo San Lucas with my parents and my aunts and uncles. I am getting a few inquiring looks as to what I could possibly doing with all of these older people. It better not be that I'm with some sugar daddy. I mean, I am with a sugar daddy, my own dad. My aunts are dead set on finding me somebody here. I have to continually point out to them that the objects of their discoveries are married. I believe I actually heard my mom say to me at the pool today, "Well, he could just be for fun while you're here." (Mouth drops!) She's kidding...I think.

I sweated and contemplated my athletic abilities while doing yoga this morning with my aunts who are in their 50's or 60's. I also questioned the man who worked out facing the window to our yoga room for longer than it was necessary. He just couldn't get enough of those Lindsay thighs I guess.

The afternoon is usually waisted away by the pool. The happy hour always begins with a cheer from all of us. I think I'm officially sick of Pina Coladas...as if that's possible.

I'm off to bed. The sun really takes it out of you.

Year of the Dragon

Apparently a career as a film star is well suited to someone born in the Year of the Dragon. Well isn't that good news! But I'm not so sure the rest of this sounds like me.

2007

I have a feeling that 2007 will be a great year. First of all, the number 7 is God's favorite number. How do I know this? The Bible told me so. I mean, He uses the number 7 in almost everything. So this is the BIG year! Second of all...there is no second of all. It just is.

My parents have no t.v. at their lakehouse and this makes us do crazy things like sit down as a family and write out our goals for the year. I actually was excited about it and am happy to be starting the year reaching for some attainable and lofty goals. I will share several of them and maybe they will inspire you to do the same!

  1. I will weigh __ __ __ pounds by 12/31/07 (this is my little secret)
  2. I will run two half marathons and compete in 1-2 triathalons this year.
  3. I will audition 3 times a month.
  4. I will write and perform a one woman show by 12/31/07.
  5. I will bring my lunch to work 3 times a week.
  6. I will read one spiritual book for every two fictional books I read.
  7. I will take a vacation with my friends and not just use my vacation days to visit family.
  8. I will be involved with four paying acting gigs this year.
  9. I will go on 25 dates this year (My dad set this goal. It appears that he's ready to marry me off).
  10. I will pray for my family everyday. (this should have been a given)

So I've got much to do this year and now you can hold me accountable!
