Heavy Closes

We closed the show Friday night. We had a small but mighty crowd. They loved to laugh...at us and with us. Then we closed down the bar with more karaoke. My muse that night was The Bangles' Eternal Flame. Tears flowed in the crowd. It really was beautiful.

I really get lots of laughs reading your blog.

Just a random thought and question...my husband and I took our kids to Kanakuk's family kamp this past week. Are you the Katy and Patrick that the pool is dedicated to? What about your brother, Drew? His name was not on the plaque.

Hi Dawn! Thanks for letting me know that you're reading my blog! Someone who loves my blog and doesn't even know me! It's fabulous :-) And someone who knows Kanakuk!

I am the Katy Orender from Kanakuk! Kanakuk played a huge role in my spiritual life and in the life of my brother, Patrick. My little sister, Erin, was a kamper for a couple of years. Andrew also went for a couple of years. It just wasn't their thing. Patrick and I dedicated years of our lives working for kamp and also working for K-Life. It was paradise on earth for us as kids.

I'm glad you got to go to the family kamp. I still haven't seen it and would love to visit someday. What was it like?

I was introduced to your blog by my sister in law...Jana Weathersby Funderburk.

Our family is also a big kamp family. My husband and I were never kampers, but were counselors during college and actually now live in Branson. Our sons are kampers now and it is so rewarding to see them enjoy the place that we loved so much in college.

We went to K-Kauai last week and it was probably the best vacation we have ever had and we live 2 miles down the road from it. It is a beautiful kamp...actually it is more like a resort than a kamp. Once you enter the gates it's as if you are some place in Mexico or Hawaii. They have truly done a beautiful job. You can see some of it on their website, but it does not do them justice at all. I highly recommend it. You should get your family together and visit it. It would be well worth the trip.

You get the amazing kamp experience as a family just in a more resort-like setting. There is a little coffee shop there where you can purchase specialty coffees, smoothies, candy and cokes...yes, you read right...cokes and candy at Kamp. WOW!

Anyway, the pool that was built in your honor is beautiful. Rock waterfalls, cool water slide, toddler play area, hot tub...you would be very honored.

Tell your parents a big thank you for that one...from us too. We loved using the pool!

Great to meet you and I will be reading everyday!

It looks amazing! It definitely looks like a resort compared to the other kamps. I could definitely go back to that one!

I will definitely pass along the thanks to my parents. They are amazing people. They are the most generous people I know.

Thanks for reading and please keep commenting!
